The online casino gambling industry in Denmark is getting a massive overhaul this year as the country moves into better alignment with the European Commissions mandates regarding a free and open online gambling industry across the borders in the EU and in Denmark. Denmark is one of the countries that has long operated internet gambling monopolies and forced legal foreign online casinos out of the Danish market. To rectify those past actions Denmark announced a new set of regulations that actually caused huge levels of turmoil between the land gambling companies and the online casino gambling sites because the proposed new Danish regulations would be giving foreign internet gambling sites an enormous tax advantage over the land gambling venues. Denmark submitted the new gambling legislation to the European Commission for approval but was instead told to consider the regulations and their effect on the countrys land-based gambling industry. Denmarks first round of regulations planned to tax the land gambling industry a whopping 45 to 75 percent while the online casinos and all forms of internet gambling would only pay 20 percent in taxes. The land gambling venues loudly objected to these proposed regulations and noted that it was almost like the Danish government was rewarding these gaming sites for their past history of violating Danish law and operating illegally in the Danish market. At the request of the European Commission Demark has announced the government will take a second look at the land and online casino gambling regulations and make an effort to even out the tax burden between the land and internet gaming sites.
