More starting chips in this year’s World Series of Poker

  Sunday, May 31, 2009

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is as usual getting bigger and bigger for each year. This can not only be measured on the number of players attending the tournament, but also seen in the expected prize pool in the Main Event.

There have been some changes prior to this year’s tournament regarding the behavior of the players at the tables. In this year’s tournament the players will have more chips than usual to play with when they enter the tournament.

The relationship between the number of starting chips and the buy-in has grown from 1:1 to 2:1 about two years ago, but now the tournament organizers have decided to up the number of chips again to three times the buy-in.

The tournament director for this years WSOP told the American newspaper, The USA Today that: “We did triple the starting chips this year, allowing players more opportunities to have their strategies, learn their players at the table, last longer in the tournament and really give them an opportunity to play."

The newspaper continued: "Players in all 57 events at this year's World Series of Poker will start out with significantly larger stacks of chips. Whether they have any left at the finish is up to their skills and luck.”
