Most people still think of online poker as a dangerous game where people loose a lot of money and become addicted to the game. A lot of people think that online poker is dominated by players who are ready to cheat you just to make a buck or two. However most of us know that this isnt the case and now a recognized US university has proven that. It is obvious to everyone that gambling can be a problem for some, if they have tendencies to become addicted and without close monitoring gambling can be a problem for those. This is however only a very small percentage of the people playing online poker who ends up with a gambling problem. The new study shows, what most regular gamblers already knows, that online poker rooms is no more addictive than any other online gambling environment. The study showed that even though the availability of online gambling has become much more widespread, this has not led to a dramatic increase in the amount of people who are reporting addictive behavior towards online poker. The study consisted of 3445 poker players and was started back in 2005 by the Harvard Medical School Division on Addictions. The main object of the study was to see whether or not online poker was a potential object for addictive behavior. The study concluded that there is no link between the availability of online poker rooms and the amount of players that become addicted to playing online poker. The players have good self discipline and show healthy use of the online gambling platform. Mr Andrew M. the executive director of Harvard Law School's Global Poker Strategic Thinking Society was unsurprised by the study commenting that he believes, poker is less like gambling and more similar to risk assessment. He continued, "There is no house in poker, so no one is guaranteed to win," adding, "Poker exercises your ability to make good decisions."
